The Bakers pump

Bakers Square and Village Inn resturants beat congress to the punch. The resturants are now offering all you can eat pancakes for the price of your gallon of gas, preferably with a reciept. This comes before our tax dollars at work can get Congress to pass a reasonable energy bill. I give Vicorp alot of credit, yet if you are not a fan of pancakes...well. It shows alot of initiative for a large comapny to actually try to do something for it's customers. It was reported on CNBC http://www.cnbc.com/id/19346185/. Our Congress will continue to kowtow to big oil companies and it's sickening. The work that alot of people have to do to afford that gas,pay the insurance, buy the car, and then get affordable pancakes...c'mon our elected officials can do better. I give props to Vicorp for the effort, but I don't really like pancakes. I personally think they are setting a good example for big companies though, if you look out for your consumer, they will likely be back. Note to Congress, if this keeps up we might not come back...

  1. I hate to break it to you, but that's not' how the market works. The Dem's energy bill will actually raise the price of gas, look into it.

As for the oil companies, there isn't enough oil being produced to meet demand, so prices go up on the open market. Dick Durbin wants to set the price at $40 per barrel for oil sold in this country and confiscate through a new tax most of the cost above that. Why $40? Because that's what he thinks it should cost, and for no other reason.

What will happen if they do that? Well, if the market says the price is $60 and countries can only sell it for $40 over here before being hit with an oppressive tax, I know China and India will buy at $60. We tried it in the 70's, remember gas lines and shortages? The embargo didn't help, but Nixon's price controls were what made it really bag.

We need to produce our own oil while simultaniously working on R & D for new energy sources. But while you hate the oil and the companies, that's all we've got right now. We need to drill while we look for something next.

That means ANWR, or at least the .2% of it where the oil is. It can be done safely and environmentally friendly, but your side won't allow it. Not out of any environment concern, though the $5 billion in assest the environmental movement holds is certain amount of concern to them, but out of a dislike of the oil and auto companies. Michigan has been destroyed by Lefties. If you can see that, you simply don't want to see that.

As for the pancakes deal, it's a smart MARKETING MOVE. Pancakes are just about the cheapest thing available for breakfast, and people fill up on them. So while they get good, free press on the subject, they make a handy profit. If you think they are doing this, or anything, out of the kindness of their hearts, you have a complete and fundamental misunderstanding of how markets work, and how corporations work. While they spin a good game, they are not in business to employ people and feed the hungry, they are in it to make a profit. If they couldn't make a profit at it, they wouldn't do because they would go out of business.

Wise up, you're buying spin from all angles here.

  2. This was not nearly the post you thought it was. It was a golf clap for Vicorp's idea. It was just an example of how a company can clearly move faster than either side of the aisle. This was a crack at both parties. As for me having no marketing intelligence, well for years I fought against the ideas that have the music industry into it's current status of stagnation.
